Reliqueries of Specimens from Untitled Landscape

The drawing encased within is a Specimen of the Untitled Landscape. A place of the unconscious and of thought, of past and other, of dream and of nightmare.

I spent five years mining that place while working a Crisis Stabilization facility for Mentally Ill Adults. Patients at these places are drowning in the turbid waters of the Untitled Landscape or they’ve dwelled in it so long, they can no longer recall our reality.

Each shift I worked on a Specimen and each time it attracted a conversation or at least an interaction with someone who needed a light in a darkness.

The Reliquaries of this series were designed by me and constructed by my father, Joao P. Cabral, a master craftsman, and generous soul. They are made of solid pine wood and made to hang from its frame. No wires needed.

This Series spans 20 pieces. They are not organized by date but more on style and memory, recollection, and composition, each is a finished piece on its own.
