Color Mixing Plates

1st Grade


First-grade students had the opportunity to advance their knowledge of colors. Discussing what make up the Primary colors, Red-Yellow-Blue, and what Primary colors make up the Secondary colors, Orange-Green-Purple.

Students began by laying down a primary color on a paper plate using a Crayola Marker, drawing shapes and patterns of their choosing. This was followed by the application of a second Primary color to create their chosen Secondary color.

Red+Yellow=Orange, Blue+Red=Purple, Yellow+Blue=Green.

Once both colors were drawn on the plate, students sprayed their plates with a water bottle to facilitate the mixing of the colors. To the students wonder they witnessed how their color creations mixed to create new colors.
